Students gather in Paris for Model UN Conference

PARIS — Students from around the world are gathering for PAMUN XV, the 15th annual Model UN conference in Paris, which begins on Feb. 13.

Scheduled to take place last November, PAMUN XV was delayed due to the Nov. 13 terror attacks in Paris as well as the massive COP21 climate change summit that began Nov. 30 and drew thousands of participants and observers to the French capital.

Student editor-in-chief Ana Madero, a senior at the American School of Paris, is leading a team of student journalists who are producing Munificence, a daily newspaper covering the conference. Cyber warfare, terrorism, the refugee crisis, rape, and global warming are only some of the topics covered in the first issue:

Student journalists will produce four issues over the course of the three-day conference, which ends Feb. 15.

Organized and hosted by the American School of Paris, PAMUN has grown from 90 students from a handful of schools in the greater Paris area 14 years ago to 431 participants from 39 schools in 131 countries this year. The theme for PAMUN XV is “achieving a balance between development and sustainability,” including discussions of climate change modeled on the recent COP21 conference.

Global Student Square will feature selected articles from Munificence over the course of the conference, along with commentary by Madero and other student editors.
