They’re back: Today’s Fridays for Future strike — the first in 18 months — will see youth activists taking to the streets again to push progress on solutions to climate change.
Here’s what you can do to raise awareness and seek solutions where you are.
Make the connection: Get ready for GSS Chats
By Casey Miller and Jonah Zigman
Connections Editors
Hello, this is Casey Miller and Jonah Zigman, your Connections Editors. We are passionate about journalism and can’t wait to connect students from all around the world in the Global Student Square network!
This week we’re launching #GSSChats for all student correspondents. The goal of these chats is to link as many of our correspondent schools as we can to create a closer GSS community and spark motivation for exciting new articles, especially on our “big story” theme this year, global migration.
There will be two chats happening based on your location, one for our correspondents in Asia and the other for students based in Europe. If you’re a student in the U.S., choose the chat that works best for you. Each chat will last for approximately one hour.
Our first Asia chat will take place Friday, Sept. 9 at 2:40 p.m. Korean standard time (Thursday, Sept. 8 at 10:40 p.m. PDT in the U.S.).
Our first Europe chat will be held Sunday, Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. central European time (or 11 a.m. PDT on Sunday in the U.S.).
For these chats, we will be using the video conferencing platform Zoom, which is free for you to download and easy to use. Before each meeting, you will receive an email asking you to join our video conference.
If you’d like to join the chat, please email us so we can add you to our list. If you have questions about when our Asia or Europe chats will be taking place in your time zone, head to iTunes and download a world clock app like Miranda, or email us and we’ll help you figure things out.
During #GSSChats, we will be discussing our “big story” theme for this year, global migration, including issues such as refugee youth, immigration, human trafficking and technology across borders. We’ll also talk about trends in journalism, high school-to-college life and the upcoming U.S. presidential election.

Guest speakers, such as Aela Callan (left), a longtime Asia correspondent for Al-Jazeera, and Gus D’Angelo, a journalist and cartoonist whose work has appeared in The New York Times and The Washington Post, will join our chats to talk about their work and answer your questions.
We are open to your suggestions and opinions, so please don’t hesitate to contact us at our emails below.
See you all at the first #GSSChat!
