GSS editors to speak at national media literacy conference in Philadelphia

Global Student Square editors-in-chief Casey Miller and Simon Greenhill and executive director Beatrice Motamedi will give a presentation on “Designing a Global Student Network” using design thinking at the upcoming National Association for Media Literacy Education Conference in Philadelphia on June 26-27.

In this session, GSS leaders will show how design thinking can help students move out of their comfort zones and release their inner creativity in ways that lead to personal as well as professional growth. They’ll also discuss how playful learning, hackathons and design sprints can challenge assumptions and create new opportunities for teaching skills and understandings, and how to engage students through positive energy and expectations.

“We are honored to be presenting our GSS mission and design thinking at the NAMLE conference,” said Miller, a senior at Campolindo High School in Moraga, California. “I’ve learned so much in the past seven months of being involved with GSS, and I can’t wait to share our work with other journalists and media literacy experts.

NAMLE’s 2015 conference will include the UNESCO Media and Information Literacy and Intercultural Dialogue Annual Conference hosted by Temple University and the Center for Media and Information Literacy.
