Green School of Bali performance targets conflict palm oil, forest fires

Le Bourget, PARIS — Students from Green School in Bali, Indonesia, staged a flash mob performance to highlight the fires burning in Borneo, which have resulted from slash-and-burn land clearing techniques by palm oil producers.

Indonesia has the world’s largest flora and fauna biodiversity, second to the Amazon. Its forests are home to more than 300,000 animal species, but they are dying at a rapid rate.

Every day, thousands of hectares of lush tropical forests that have existed for millions of years are being burned down to plant conflict palm oil plantations. This “slash and burn” technique used by large companies does not only destroy the homes and kill these mostly endangered species, but has recently caused a thick toxic haze to plague the nations’ cities, causing hundreds of deaths and health problems.

In this video, we are raising awareness about the animals and people suffering in these forest fires, and boycotting conflict palm oil production and consumption.
